Sarvangasana Or Standing on shoulders

Sarvangasana(Standing on shoulders):
By the practice of this asana, the health of all parts of the body Sarvanga is maintained. This is achieved by toning and balancing the function of the thyroid.

Sthiti: Lie down on the supine keeping the legs together and stretch the hands straight above the head region, i.e., from toes to head, the entire body in a straight line.
1.       Raise both the legs together up to 45 degrees from the ground.
2.        Further raise the legs up to 90 degrees and place the hands by the side of the body.
3.       Raise further, the buttocks and the trunk is taking the support of the arms and the elbows by firmly placing the elbows on the ground and support the back with both the palms. Keep the legs parallel to the ground.
4.       Keep the trunk and legs in a straight line by supporting the trunk on the shoulders. Maintain the head on the floor.
5.       Return to position 3.
6.       Return to position 2.
7.       Return to position 1.
8.       Return to Tahiti.
Benefits of Sarvangasana(Standing on shoulders):
Maintains healthy thyroid and thereby general health. Beneficially influences and tones up the pelvic organs. The brain gets a rich supply of blood.
Good in treating Varicose veins, piles Hernia, Faulty Thyroid ailments, visceroptosis, Dyspepsia, Constipation and Menstrual disorder.
Memory develops, well for concentration and balance of mind.
Caution: Those with Hypertension, lumbago, slip disc and Cervical Spondylosis should avoid.
Subtle Points:
Mode of Bending:
In the position no.1, knees should not be bent and in position no.3 without lifting the head, take the support on the arms and the elbows. Do not stretch the ankles in the final position.
Mode of breathing:

Breathe out whenever you bend downwards and inhale while raising up. Regular breathing in the final position.

Sarvangasana means an asana with all body. This asana helps our entire organs work efficiently. This a primary asana after standing on the head.

The main health benefits of savanna asana are to get the thyroid gland working at peak efficiency. The thyroid gland plays a crucial role. In your ideal weight and youthful appearance.

The shoulder stand regulates sex glands, vitalizes the nerves, purifies the blood and promote blood circulation, it strengthens the lower organs and helps to prevent any displacement. It strengthens shoulder muscles.
Sarvanga asana is very much beneficial to balance poor blood circulation, constipation, indigestion, asthma, and reduced virility.
This pose is very much useful for women after delivery, painful menstruation, and other female disorders.

Sarvanga asana or shoulder stand pose is benefited to all parts of the body. This is the main reason this asana is called as Sarvanga asana. Shoulder stand pose or Sarvanga asana is especially beneficial for the thyroid gland, helping in proper digestion, blood circulation and respiration.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

How to do :

  1. Lie down flat on the back.
  2. Lift both the legs until the trunk.
  3. Hips and legs are in a vertical position.
  4. The fore arms should be moved up holding the back with the palms of the hand.

5,Supporting the body and keeping it steady so that the chin will be pressed firmly against the throat which has a squeezing action on the thyroid gland .

6.The whole weight of the body will be resting on the shoulders. Inhale deeply.

Duration: It may be performed a few seconds to three minutes. sarvanga asana or shoulder stand pose should done only once a day.

Benefits: Sarvanga asana or shoulder stand pose improves the secretions of the thyroid, this results to toning the whole body and nourishing the blood and nervous system.
It improves  vitality and is most beneficial  in the treatment  of dyspepsia, constipation, gastrtointestinal disorders and varicose veins. It is believed  to cure even leprosy when practiced regularly in conjunction with a special diet. It awakens the mystic Kundalini. This is regarded next only to king of all asanas-shirsha asana.
